Hide Yourself

Singing Hide Yourself

When we see all the troubles of our time, sometimes it may be that we want to hide ourselves from it all.  Although ostriches don’t actually do it, the idea is often suggested that we should not hide our heads in the sand like an ostrich.

But is there a time to hide ourselves, even while we live our lives?  Is there even a way to do that?  I believe there is.  As a disciple of Jesus there is a mystical way to hide ourselves in Him.  When we pray we can rely on Him. We can also even as we read His Word and live by His way, rather than trying to figure it out ourselves.  There is a deep assurance when we do this that we are on the eternal path of life. And that is at least one way to hide ourselves in Him.

Sometimes I even give my burdens to Him, that I can feel sometimes physically- usually on my upper back- and I can feel Him taking them away and giving me life in exchange.  As I ask for forgiveness and literally lay down on a bed and rest in Him, I can feel like I’m laying my head on His chest.

So my song, “Hide Yourself” goes:

Hide yourself in Jesus, hide yourself in Him, hide yourself in Jesus; He’ll give you rest, my friend…all your bitterness and your lustful heart, give it all to Him, come just as you are.  And your selfishness, and your prideful thinking, in his shadow hide and watch your sin start shrinking!  Hide yourself in Jesus…

And that track ends by flowing into another song as a medley, a song of praise that just simply goes:

You, I sing to you a beautiful melody, just for you…
