Guy with a Gun
Why is it becoming common place in American culture for men to take out a gun and start shooting? That hasn’t been common place before in America, not random acts of violence, or seemingly not so random. Jesus teaches that not only if we murder are we subject to judgement, but if we are angry with our brother without being willing to settle the matter, we are also subject to judgment. So maybe we shouldn’t be too quick to point the finger. Consider this:
A guy with a gun in his coat decides he’s a god as he’s walking down the street.
Blood comes from his nose when he falls on his face, tripping on his own feet.
Crashing on his face still doesn’t change his mind- “I’m still a god”- and so remains blind
Down on him God looks with a smiling face; comes down as a member of the human race
Elohim appears in human form to this guy and tells him plain as day,
“Foolish man, I’m God as a human; listen and I’ll show you the way.
“God is worth believin’; I’ll show you how to be one with me forever.”
However, the guy takes out his gun and screams at Him, “Never!
“I don’t believe you!” so he shoots God in the nose so that He falls on his face and is dead.
Just because He’s God though, He can’t stay that way and so gets up from His bloody bed.
Kindly He rises up and says to this guy, “Do you believe me now?
“Listen to my voice, put down your gun and let me show you how.”
Me and you he is, that think we are all gods, but fall flat on our faces.
Notice how God comes to us in human form, just as He did in Jesus
Our mouths and lives are our guns that we shoot at God and one another
Perhaps it’s time to put them down and start to love our fellow brother
Quit shooting our guns and consider the one who turned the other cheek
Rises up again and reminds us all that, “Blessed are the meek…
“So do you believe me now?” He asks through the passing ages
to this very moment He asks again, the Sage of all the sages
Understand with ears that hear, and let me ask, “do you believe Him?”
Veer a little from that Path, and His voice begins to be far and dim
Whoever has ears let that one hear
X-ray vision into Heaven if held dear
You and also me
Zealous to be free
